According to reports, Ghanaian powerhouse Hearts of Oak is close to selecting Dutch coach Erik van der Meer as the team’s new head coach.
The reigning FA Cup champions have struggled in the 2022–23 Ghana Premier League (GPL) season, losing one and drawing two of their first three games and going eight games without a victory.
Due to this, the contracts of Coach Samuel Boadu and his coaching staff were mutually terminated.
The Dutch manager was under contract with Hearts of Oak to serve as the team’s technical director.
Van der Meer attended the club’s 1-1 draw with Kotoko on Sunday at the Baba Yara Stadium in Kumasi. An formal statement will soon be made.
However, according to media sources, the Dutchman will succeed Samuel Boadu, who has been escorted out of the club.
Van de Meer, who holds a UEFA Pro Licence, has been free since leaving his position as Saudi Arabia U20 team manager in March 2021.
He has formerly managed a number of teams, including Frenz United, Al Ahli Doha, PFK Stal Kamyanske, Honved Budapest, and Qatar SC.
The Dutch strategist has also served as director of football at Qatari club Al Shamal SC and academy manager of Ukrainian team Metalurg Donetsk.
