Yussif Chibsah, who is a Former Ghanaian midfielder, has revealed that players who were on standby at the 2006 World Cup in Germany are yet to receive the $10,000 appearance fees which was promised by the Ghana Football Association(GFA).
After the 23-man squad was confirmed for the World Cup, five players including Chibsah, Baffour Gyan, Baba Armando, Philemon McCarthy and Aziz Ansah were named in a standby list.
An appearance fee of $10,000 was agreed on with the players and those named in the World Cup squad receiving $50,000, however, Chibsah disclosed efforts to get their monies proved futile.
“We bargained for it and as a result of that the standby players were separated from the main 23 man squad,” he said on an Accra–based TV station.
“We were promised 10 thousand dollars with those in the 23 man squad promised fifty thousand but we the standby players are yet to receive the money.
‘There were five of us Baffour Gyan, Baba Amando, Philemon McCarthy Aziz Ansah and myself.
“A couple of years after the incident a couple of the players inquired so we got in touch with the FA through then Prez Kwesi Nyantakyi who admitted that he remembered but FA was in financial difficulty and that they would pay when they got money.
“That was all but we have still not received our money.”
