It was all due to sexual gratification! Or wasn’t it? John Odartey Lamptey subjected his wife to beatings that thieves deserve.
Perhaps he felt his dignity, ego, or manhood was robbed because he was denied sex.
Harriet Amuzu, the wife who suffered life-changing domestic abuse from her estranged husband, gathered courage to share her ordeal in a TV3 report.
“He wanted to kill me,” she cried out while narrating what must be one of her embarrassing and painful experiences in her marriage.
She shares two children with her husband, John Odartey Lamptey, who is now in the custody of the Ghana Police Service—a five-year-old and a two-year-old.
According to Harriet, she had been separated from John for five months. She received a distress call from John claiming one of their children was gravely ill.
She rushed over to Ofankor, where John lived, to care for their child, only to realise it was a ploy to get her back home.
In the middle of the night, she rejected sexual advances from John, which may have bruised his ego, leading to the viral video of him unleashing beatings on her the next day after stripping her naked.
Harriet revealed these kinds of assaults had been going on for some time, and her efforts to get the Ghana Police Service to come to her aid had always proved futile. Her revelation has raised many questions regarding the police’s stance on gender-based violence.
John and two of his siblings are in police custody. His siblings were arrested for attempting to attack a tenant in John’s house, who recorded the inhumane ordeal.
