Tema-based rapper, Dadie Opanka, says if his new song “People” does not fetch him the Songwriter of the Year award at the 2026 Vodafone Ghana Music Awards, it means that the organisers have cheated.
According to him, the song has solid inspirational lyrics that deserve an award.
Dadie Opanka said this during an exclusive interview with Max Drive in Accra on Friday.
“‘People’ song must win Songwriter of the Year because I feel that I deserve it. So far, I haven’t heard any song from A-Z giving solid advice. That’s why this year, 2025, the year under review, the song is solid for it to fetch me the songwriter of the year award,” he said.
Dadie Opanka indicated that he was not too early to demand the Songwriter of the Year award, stressing that the track was evergreen and the lyrics fit every year’s setting.
However, if the award swerved, he believed he had been duped by the organisers.
“I can’t force the organisers to give me the award as the songwriter because it is their plaque, and they can choose who they will give it to.”
“If the award swerves and is given to another musician, we will compare the lyrics of both songs and see if the musician deserves it,” he added.
