WATCH VIDEO: #ThinkPossibilities- Physically challenged wants to become Ghana President

Date:

David Mensah, a physically challenged fashion designer who doubles as HR and manager at Awudome’s Mother’s Inn, a popular drinking spot, has not allowed his situation to affect his life and hopes to become the next President of Ghana.

Though society tries to kill his dreams and aspirations, his zeal to accomplish them still stands tall.

Sharing his life-threatening story with Max TV, David Mensah mentioned that he wasn’t born with the challenge to walk; rather, it was an aftereffect of polio medications, which happened when he was three.

“My mother informed the doctor about my inability to stand after the medication, but the doctor said after a while I’d walk, but that hasn’t been the case till now,” he said.
He asserted that society hardly involves him because they think he can’t be of help, but after he’s made an input, they accept him and sometimes marvel at it.

His ambition is to be the next president of Ghana. “I want to become President of Ghana,” he went on to say, saying that to be president, you need to have ideas and not just about legs and hands. “I think somebody like me should be able to become president.”
“Society should not deny somebody like me the right to become president.”

He went on to speak about the challenges of physically challenged persons, of which he mentioned mobility—moving from one place to another—being a big challenge and also societal indifference against physically challenged persons. He said society thinks they don’t have much to offer, so they are usually left out of opportunities and platforms to showcase their talent.

He advised the physically challenged to be determined in their dealings and ambitions.

“If you want to do anything, you can do it; you just need to be determined.”.

He went on by calling out society to accept them as they are and help them fully utilize their potential.
