The performance of the Access Bank Division One League clubs in the 2024—25 MTN FA Cup has shown the gap of quality has been bridged.
Dr Godfred Akoto Boafo, a seasoned media practitioner, believes a number of the players in Ghana’s second tier of football have shown they are talented enough to be given a chance at the Black Stars.
“Take a look at what Golden Kick have been able to do in the FA Cup, it supports the theory that the gap between Division One and Premier League isn’t that wide,” opined Dr Boafo
“If there is a Division One player better than Premier League, then call him. It seems the Division One players aren’t respected. Division One has quality players such as Kwadwo Boamah [Hohoe United] and others,” he added.
Dr Boafo is not far away from the truth when it comes to the quality of the players in Division One are—players such as Richard Apokum [Attram De Visser], Da Costa Owusu [Golden Kicks], Osman Zakaria [Northern City], Abdul Rashid [ Real tamale United], Rudolf Jnr. Mensah [Swedru All Black], and a few others have certainly impressed.
However, the question is, do they have enough quality to be considered to be selected by the technical team of the Black Stars?
