U-17 AFCON: Ghana Legend Left Disappointed By Black Starlets’ Stalemate

Date:

Former Ghana star Yaw Preko, just like every other patriot, was left disappointed by the Black Starlets‘ results against Algeria.

The Algerians pegged back the Ghanaians after the latter took a deserving 2-0 lead in their first Group D match.

Adam Benali and Melwane Zaidi cancelled out Ghana’s quite comfortable lead in the second half.

Reacting in the aftermath of the game, the Shooting Stars boss expressed his frustration at the draw, which could set a challenging tone for the team at the 2026 U-17 AFCON.

“Yesterday’s result against Algeria was very disappointing… We didn’t really take control of the game after the first 45 minutes. Our right was a bit overconfident. He is the cause of Algeria’s two goals,” Yaw Preko shared on Max FM’s Sports Pack Show.

Eric Gyamfi’s Puskás-worthy goal increased Ghana’s lead after an opening own goal in their favour till losing the plot, allowing the North Africans to steal a point.

With their comeback win against Senegal, South Africa will look to maintain a winning run in their next game against Algeria, while Ghana hopes for a win against Senegal.
