Nigeria dominates the medal table at the ongoing 2026 CAA African Senior Athletics Championships in Accra, Ghana.
Ghana entered the event with a strong sense of confidence, as they are the host country and boast a roster of promising athletes, including some experienced Olympians.
However, it is their ‘cousins’ exercising their authority and sheer dominance in the poorly telecast championship.
Obiageri Amarachi produced a superb performance to win bronze in the women’s discus final.
Tobi Amusan (1st) and Adaobi Tabugbo (3rd) produced a double podium finish for Nigeria in women’s 100m hurdles.
Chidera Ezeakor clinched his first individual senior medal for Nigeria by winning a bronze medal in the men’s 100m.
Rosemary Chukwuma’s gold in the 100m final was stripped away and replaced with silver. Team Nigeria has lodged a complaint against the decision.
The quartet of Ezekiel Asuquo, Toheebat Jimoh, Victor Sampson, and Patience Okon-George won the 4x100m mixed relay with the time of 3:16.41 without the powerhouse Chidi Okezie.
Day 3 of the championship continues at the University of Ghana Stadium.
