Renowned actor Adjetey Anang, popularly known as “Pusher,” has expressed the need for the local movies to entail a rich cultural story that resonates with the people.
According to him, Ghanaians are fed up with foreign movies and are looking for stories that tell the rich African tales.
Speaking in a recent media interview, Adjetey Anang stated that the act of some movie directors and producers had made many Ghanaians sway from buying local movies and were now patronizing live theatre plays.
“I think that we haven’t done a lot of work in the stories that film directors are telling. We are fed up with Western movies. Audiences can more or less predict what they are about to see, and so they will rather prefer going to a live theatre,” he said.
Adjetey Anang stated that movie directors had to incorporate the local food, costume, and other culturally relevant aesthetics to make movies appealing to their target market rather than tolling the line of the Westerners.
That, he noted, was not an African story and could not even be valued outside the country.
Adjetey Anang emphasized that there were lots of stories to be told about Africa to educate, entertain, and leave better moral lessons and underscored the need for producers and directors to step up their game to save the local industry.
