SING-A-THON: I was judging Afua so hard – Zap Mallet apologizes

Date:

Renowned music producer Zapp Mallet has issued a public apology to Afua Asantewaa after condemning her capabilities in her attempt to breaking the Guinness record for the longest singing marathon by an individual.

In a series of earlier posts on X, Mallet questioned Asantewaa’s suitability for the ambitious quest, suggesting that the feet exceeded her singing abilities, hence advised her to quit.

He explained that such feats were typically reserved for individuals with well-defined singing prowess.

Mallet expressed concern about the manner Asantewaa was not hitting on the right keys simply because she was tired and deemed the feat as a herculean task for her.

The music producer, who faced a barrage of criticism on social media has however expressed regret and taken to X formerly Twitter to apologize.

He clarified that his comments were rooted in concern for Asantewaa and not intended to disparage her attempt.

Mallet also said he was unaware of the specific rules governing the singing marathon until recently.

“Guys, guys, guys, I’m so, so sorry. I just realized I was judging Afua Asantewaa so hard. Plz forgive me. 🙏🙏🙏🙏 I didn’t know the rules. But I said some of the things out of concern for her. Pls don’t get me wrong. I’m behind her just like every Ghanaian,” he tweeted.

Afua Asantewaa has currently set her sights on surpassing the current record-holder, Indian singer Sunil Waghmare, who achieved a remarkable 105-hour singing marathon in 2012 and she aims to etch her name into the Guinness World Records by exceeding Waghmare’s 105-hour mark.

At present, she has completed over 110 hours of her Sing-a-thon journey.
