When the final 26-man World Cup squad was revealed on Monday, November 14, two players who are excelling at their various clubs were left off, but Ghana coach Otto Addo has refused to publicly explain why.
Joseph Paintsil and Jeffery Schlupp, the squad’s two famous members, are aware of the reasons they were left out, Otto Addo claimed during a news conference in Accra.
“As a principle, I don’t like to do to others what I don’t want to be done to me. The team is like a family and whatever happens stays in the family. The players who did not make the squad know why they did not make it. I have spoken to them.”
The biggest news from the team announcement appears to have been the exclusion of both Paintsil and Schlupp, especially considering that they were not injured.
Goalkeepers Joojo Wallacott and Richard Ofori were both notable names missing from the team because they were both forced to withdraw due to last-minute ailments.
This tonight, Ghana will start setting up camp for the 2022 World Cup. Their opening match is scheduled for November 24 against Portugal.
