FULL HISTORY

Accra Great Olympics Football Club club was formed on April 21, 1954, at Sakumo Tsoshie in the Accra Central District by seven (7) eminent personalities, namely, Messrs. S. O. Glover, S.A. Okwabi, E.C. Oblitey, Adja Provencal, Amos Josiah, W.P. Tetteh, and J.K. Ameka, all of blessed memory.

The club was formed out of ACCRA ROBERTS’ STANDFAST, a crack football club during that period. The events that occasioned its formation are a gargantuan topic for another day.

Great Olympics was the first club in the history of football to have an unbeaten run of 38 matches.
The club has gone through thick and thin during its sixty-nine years of existence. There have been moments of jubilation as well as moments of gloom.

The club started very well in the initial stages. It propelled itself to become the third force in Ghanaian football. The ‘Wonder Club, as it is popularly known, was also the first team to represent Ghana as a national side and beat Togo 1-0 in 1960.

However, the same cannot be said today. The club is going through many vicissitudes and circumstances.

Accra Great Olympics can boast of two (2) league titles, three (3) FA Cup winners, three (3) Guinness Gala trophies, and one (1) Super Champions Trophy in respect of national laurels.

The above notwithstanding, Olympics have won numerous trophies. Notably among them are the GA MANTSE GOLD CUP, NRC ANNIVERSARY CHALLENGE CUP, UN PEACE CUP, KLM CHALLENGE CUP, NAM CONFERENCE CHALLENGE CUP, SPECIAL HOMOWO CHALLENGE CUP, INDEPENDENCE ANNIVERSARY CUP, and recently, the TOP SIX (6) TOURNEY CUP.
