MAX ENTERTAINMENT: Ghana Music has lost its identity – Fimfim

Date:

Hiplife artist Fimfim has bemoaned that the country’s music has lost its identification since there is no authentic genre the industry could be recognized with on the international market.

According to him, musicians have neglected the country’s main genres like Hiplife and Highlife to go after Afrobeat.

Speaking exclusively on Max Morning Dew in Accra on Friday, Fimfim said the act has made Ghana lose international identification.

He explained that the influx of foreign genres in the local industry has done more harm than good, making the country lose its originality and essence in the global market.

“American RnB has never lost its essence because they have not neglected it. Even if the musicians are doing different genres, their original RnB, Hiphop and the rest are always being modified. Reggae is still there; however, when it comes to Ghana, once we hear of a new genre, then the one we know suddenly becomes archaic,” Fimfim decried.

The music producer observed that the trend had contributed to the failure of the industry and urged musicians to go back to their roots to promote authentic Highlife and Hiplife music to set Ghana on the map again.
