Chief Pharmacist at the Ghana Police Hospital, ASP Ellen Sam, has noted that the fight against malaria in the country can be won with genuine drugs.
According to her, managing the disease with effective and efficient drugs is one of the surest ways to eradicate it in the country.
In a media interview after a donation exercise by Bliss GVS Pharma to the Police and 37 Military hospitals, ASP Sam said fake drugs, could distract the country’s efforts in the fight against malaria.
“Drugs are very important in every healthcare system. When people come to the hospital, and they are diagnosed, and we don’t have effective medication to manage them, they are not going to get well. So, this drug will go a very long way to help us in managing our clients, so it has come at a good time, we need them …I can say that malaria is a very serious condition, especially when uncomplicated malaria is not managed promptly, it progresses to become complicated malaria which can even lead to death, especially in pregnant women and children under five years. Malaria constitutes more than 20% of OPD cases”.
At the 37 military hospital, Commander of the hospital, Brigadier General Obodai, expressed appreciation to Bliss GVS Pharma for its move to assist in caring for people with malaria.
Brigadier General Obodai assured that the drugs will be dispensed to needy patients at no cost.
Bliss GVS Pharma donated a range of pharmaceutical products to the two hospitals to aid them in effectively combating malaria.
The donated medications include Lonart, P-Alaxin, Gsunate and Gvither injections valued at a total cost of One Hundred and Fifty Thousand Ghana Cedis. (GH₵75, 000.00 for each hospital).
According to the Institutional Manager of Bliss GVS Ghana Limited, Joshua Affram, the exercise forms part of the company’s social responsibility to reach out to the Ghanaian population who needs help to overcome malaria.
“This is part of our continued efforts of providing medicines easily accessible to the people of Ghana particularly antimalarial and other essential medicines to help eradicate malaria holistically from Ghana and Africa, making it continent free of malaria”.
