Chelsea are among the clubs to have engaged in early discussions with the Hammers over Mohammed Kudus, who has a release clause of £85m.
The prospect of at least one Chelsea player heading across London as part of the deal has been discussed.
Chelsea goalkeeper Robert Sanchez is among the players to have been mentioned during early talks.
The Blues, however, are not the only club to have expressed an interest in Kudus, with at least one other Premier League side and several overseas monitoring his situation.
It is understood Kudus is open to leaving London Stadium before next season, particularly to a club that can provide him with Champions League football.
