Asante Kotoko have announced the return of former striker Kwame Opoku, who has signed a two-and-a-half-year contract with the club, pending medical and international transfer clearance.
The 27-year-old forward is back with the Porcupine Warriors after an impressive 2020/21 season, where he tallied six goals and three assists in 16 appearances. His stellar form earned him moves to USM Alger in Algeria and subsequently to Moroccan side Olympique Khouribga.
Opoku, who will don the number 31 jersey, is expected to bolster Kotoko’s attack as they seek to improve their scoring record. The team has struggled offensively this season, managing just 10 goals in 12 league matches.
The absence of their top scorer, Albert Amoah, due to injury, has further strained their attacking options. Opoku’s return is seen as a crucial reinforcement, adding both experience and depth as the team aims for silverware this season.
Having trained with the team for several weeks, Opoku had to await the opening of the second transfer window and his registration confirmation before rejoining officially. His comeback is highly anticipated by fans eager to see Kotoko regain their dominant form.
