In a decisive move to ensure safety and accommodate a larger crowd, the Inspector General of Police (IGP), Dr. George Akuffo Dampare, has ordered the relocation of the highly anticipated MTN FA Cup Round of 16 match between Hearts of Oak and Golden Kicks.
The fixture, initially scheduled to take place on Saturday at the Tuba Astro Turf at 3:00 PM, will now be held at the University of Ghana Stadium. The decision follows concerns over the expected large turnout from Hearts of Oak’s passionate fanbase, which the smaller Tuba venue would struggle to accommodate.
This move is seen as a proactive step by the Ghana Police Service to prevent overcrowding and maintain security during what is expected to be a high-stakes encounter. Hearts of Oak, one of Ghana’s most successful football clubs, enjoys a massive following, making the need for a larger venue critical for both fan comfort and safety.
The relocation also reflects a broader commitment by the authorities and the Ghana Football Association (GFA) to enhance the matchday experience for fans while prioritizing their well-being.
Fans are encouraged to take note of the venue change as both teams gear up for what promises to be a thrilling showdown in the race for FA Cup glory.
