Hon. Kofi Adams, Ghana’s Minister for Sports and Recreation, has asserted that his warnings fell on deaf ears.
Calls continue to grow for Hon. Kofi Adams to vacate his post or H.E. President John Dramani Mahama to sack him.
In his recent interviews on TV stations seeking to distance himself from the ongoing visa scandal, he always maintained that he warned the public against contracting shady people to help them secure visas for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
“Before the World Cup, as Minister, on several occasions I had cause to warn Ghanaians and advise Ghanaians not to give money out to anybody in the name of going to offer you a visa to go to the US or Canada,” he said.
Following the suspension of Yaw Ampofo Ankrah, the former Director General of the National Sports Authority for his alleged involvement in the visa scandal and other matters, the minority caucus in parliament are pressing hard for Kofi Adams to be sacked.
Allegations raised so far show that visa applicants through the NSA, TRIBE Culture Fest, and Ghana Tourism Authority were charged from USD 7,000 to USD 14,000.
These amounts are far off from the original amount of around USD 2,000 for visa applications to the United States of America and Canadian embassies.
The applicants who were unable to secure visas through the fingered agencies must also be questioned for knowing they were misrepresented as employees and volunteers in the application processes.
