FIFA has imposed a player registration ban on Tanzanian club Young Africans SC following their failure to adhere to a compensation ruling in favor of Ghanaian striker Hafiz Konkoni.
Konkoni filed a complaint with FIFA after Young Africans abruptly terminated his contract and neglected to pay the agreed-upon compensation. The striker, who is currently playing for Ethiopian club Bunna FC, originally joined Young Africans on a two-year deal from Bechem United in 2023.
However, his contract was cut short after just one year, and the club refused to pay the remaining signing-on fees. To make matters worse, Young Africans removed Konkoni’s name from the Tanzania Football Federation (TFF) system without his consent, exacerbating the situation.
In response, Konkoni escalated the issue to FIFA, which ruled in his favor. As a result of this ruling, issued on October 17, 2024, Young Africans are now barred from registering any new players until they fulfill their financial obligations to Konkoni. This ruling not only impacts the club’s ability to strengthen its squad but also highlights the importance of honoring contractual agreements in professional football.
