The Minister of Health, Hon. Kwabena Mintah Akandoh, has on Thursday, April 24, presented medical equipment to the Tamale Teaching Hospital.
The medical items, including ventilators, cardiac Monitors, infant incubators, ECG machine, oxygen concentrator, and other essentials, were handed over to the administration of the hospital.
Following a surprise visit to the hospital on April 22, with the Tamale North MP, Hon. Suhuyini, the Minister expressed his utmost disgust at the disturbing management of the biggest teaching hospital in the North.
This led to the sacking of Dr Adam Atiku as Chief Executive Officer of the hospital—causing an uproar within the Ghana Medical Association and resident doctors at the hospital.
“It is quite disheartening to hear that equipment such as CT Scan and MRI have been down for about six years without maintenance,” Hon. Akandoh said during his first visit to the hospital.
Hon. Akandoh appealed to striking doctors of the hospital following Dr Atiku’s sacking to come to the negotiating table.
