GPL WK 14: Asante Kotoko demolish Kotoku Royals 5 – 1 at Baba Yara Sports Stadium

Date:

On Sunday night at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium in Kumasi, Kumasi Asante Kotoko SC pulled the Akyem Kotoku Royals through the city’s streets.

At Baba Yara Sports, the Porcupine Warriors embarrassed the Royals by defeating them 5-1, their largest victory of the year.

Kotoko’s box-to-box midfielder Richmond Lamptey, a former Inter Ally, scored a beautiful goal to break the game’s scoreless tie in the 11th minute.

The referee was forced to give Ugandan attacker Steve Makwala a penalty when he was hauled down in the opposition’s 18-yard box, giving the Porcupines the chance to increase their lead.

The Ugandan forward stepped up and skillfully converted the penalty kick to give Kotoko a 2-0 advantage.

Asante Kotoko 2- 1 Kotoku Royals was the final result at the end of the first half after Francis Kumi’s goal gave the Akyem Oda Lads a one-goal lead.

The Reds had a comfortable advantage when the game resumed in the second half after Steve Makwala scored his second goal of the game.

The visiting team failed to step up their game and put up a great performance in the second half, allowing Kotoko to easily ride over them.

The fourth goal was scored by Ivorian Serge Zeze in the 80th minute after being placed on side by Makwala’s cut-pass.

In the final minute, former Karela United FC player Solomon Sarfo Taylor scored the game-winning goal to seal the victory. In the match at the Baba Yara Sport Stadium, the Porcupine Warriors triumphed.

After 14 games and 24 points, Kotoko has moved up to second place in the standings.
