#GhanaPremierLeague: Can Medeama retain their crown?

Date:

Many wonder if the defending champions, Medeama SC, will be able to defend their league crown for a return to the CAF Champions League.

Looking at their stuttering performances so far in the league, one can be permitted to doubt their ability to do so.

Medeama, who wowed Ghanaian football fans in the 2022–23 Ghana Premier League season with their giant-slaying performances, were obviously more focused on their maiden entry into the group stages of the CAF Champions League.

However, the boys from Tarkwa failed to meet the expectations of millions of Ghanaian football fans who were dreaming big for them.

The Yellow and Mauves finished bottom of Group D with four points, four defeats, one draw, and one win.

With two games in hand, nine points shy of the summit, and placed tenth on the league standings, Moses Armah Parker, the team’s bankroller, would be eager to see his side return to the top spot.

Their quest for the top resumed at the Dr. Kwame Kyei Sports Complex as they faced fourth-placed Nations FC. Black Stars left-back Fatawu Suleamana’s curling free-kick in the 32nd minute sent the champions into the lead.

Asamoah Boateng Afriyie’s equalizer on the stroke of halftime halted the visitors’s charge for the summit of the league standings in the matchweek tie in Abrankese.

Coach Nebjosa Kapor expressed his delight over his side’s performance against Nations and will be hoping they cap off their excellent displays with a win over Bechem United in the next match.
