Carlisle United are looking to make a shock approach to Steven Gerrard, according to Mail Sport.
The League Two side who are currently bottom of the table, fired manager Mike Williamson on Monday morning.
The club’s American owners are now eyeing the unlikely prospect of Gerrard taking over in a desperate attempt to stop them dropping out of the EFL
Gerrard recently left a lucrative role with Al-Ettifaq in Saudi Arabia last week after only 18 months in charge.
A scenario which sees the former England captain agreeing to oversee a League Two relegation scrap, would be viewed by most as a long-shot.
Ex-Bolton boss, Ian Evatt, has emerged as the bookmakers’ favourite.
However, an approach to Gerrard has been raised by the Americans, who took over at Brunton Park in November 2023.
Carlisle sacked Williamson on deadline day, with no fewer than 12 players brought to the club in the current window.
