Sam Kerr’s calf injury has forced her to miss Australia’s first World Cup encounter as well as their second group fixtures.
Given that Kerr serves as both the Matildas’ captain and star striker, the news is a significant blow to them.
The Chelsea forward was shown on camera grinning as she entered the changing room after getting off the team bus, but she was not included in the matchday squad to face the Republic of Ireland.
