Defending champions Italy earned a hard-fought 2-1 comeback win against Albania in the second Group B match of the day.
Nedim Bajrami scored the fastest European championship goal in history after 23 seconds when he smashed the ball into the top right corner after Federico Dimarco’s miscalculated throw-in.
Alessandro Bastoni headed home the equalizer through Lorenzo Pellegrini’s inswinging cross in the 11th minute, before Nicolo Barella’s 20-yard strike put Italy ahead five minutes later.
Three-time winners, Spain secured an emphatic 3-0 victory against Croatia, courtesy of Alvaro Morata, Fabian Ruiz, and Dani Carvajal first-half goals, to go top of Group B.
In the other Group A fixture, Switzerland showed themselves strong over Hungary with a 3-1 win. Kwadwo Duah, Aibescher, and Embolo scored for the Swiss, as Varga bagged the consolation goal for the Hungarians.
England will take on Serbia after Slovenia faces off with Denmark in Group C’s first game, while Poland battles the Netherlands in the last game on Sunday.
