Nations FC bankroller, Dr. Kwame Kyei, says he would rather forgo the Ghana Premier League title than win it at the cost of human lives.
Week 33 of the league was marred by violence as Dr. Kyei and club president Mr. Divine Kyei Boadu were reportedly assaulted by Basake Holy Stars fans at the Ampain AAK II Arena.
The top-of-the-table clash was cut short after Nations FC walked off the pitch, citing security concerns and poor officiating.
“I wasn’t happy with what happened,” Dr. Kyei told Asempa FM. “I’ve been involved in football for years, but what I saw yesterday wasn’t right. If winning the league means losing lives, then I prefer to lose.”
The Ghana Football Association is yet to issue an official response within seven days.
Nations FC needed a win to seal their first-ever Ghana Premier League title.
