After Joshua from Keche musical duo fame slammed Charterhouse for not honoring his group in the annual Telecel Ghana Music Awards (TGMA), the Public Relations Officer for Charterhouse, Robert Klah, has disclosed that his outfit no longer finds the Best Group of the Year category competitive.
According to him, the Best Group of the Year category has been shunned from the nomination list for the last few years since it has become dormant.
Speaking in an interview with the media, Klah indicated that since 2021, all entries for nomination in that category had not met the required criteria, hence the action of his outfit.
“Yes, we didn’t add Group of the Year to the nominations list because the Board has realized that it’s no longer as competitive as it used to be, so it was decided to let it rest until they become competitive again.”
“If an artiste or group is not on the list, it simply means they did not meet the criteria if they filed for nomination in the year under review,” he stated.
Klah stated that there were other nomination categories to which groups could apply aside from the Group of the Year awards category.
“The groups are still eligible to participate in the awards scheme, so they can be nominated in any of the song or artistry categories.”
“FRA is a group, but they have been nominated in the Best Highlife Artiste of the Year category. If we have enough competitive groups in the future, the category will be brought back into the scheme,” he said.
Klah assured his outfit’s commitment to consider including the Best Group category once it finds strong competition for it once again.
Meanwhile, the Best Group of the Year award was last won in 2021 by Bethel Revival Choir after beating stiff competitors including R2Bees, La Meme Gang, and DopeNation.
