The Black Queens of Ghana are eyeing the 2025 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations trophy after earning their place back into the competition since 2018.
Ghana had been in the wilderness after a poor showing in the competition hosted in the country five years ago under the current head coach of Heart of Lions, Bashir Hayford.
Matilda Dzifa Dimedo, the Public Relations Officer of the Black Queens, revealed the ambitions of the team in an interview on Max TV.
Dimedo highlighted the essence of the team quickly adapting to the ways of new head coach Kim Lars Björkegren, who replaced Nora Hauptle.
“He is our leader and coach. You need to work with him. I don’t think any of the players have a problem with him. It is not in our DNA,” she said on the Sports Pack show.
She expressed the team’s ambition under the new head coach. The Black Queens are not only looking to perform at the WAFCON but also go all the way to clinching the trophy.
“We have one focus. It is to look forward to performing at the WAFCON and even possibly winning it because Ghana has only reached the semis, final, have silver (2), we are yet to get the gold,” Dimedo added.
The farthest Ghana has reached at WAFCON competitions is the silver medal position after losing twice to the Super Falcons of Nigeria.
Björkegren and his technical team would use the two friendlies against Morocco and AS FAR Rabat to have a good look at the team’s strengths and weaknesses ahead of the 2025 WAFCON in Morocco
