Black Bombers captain vows to end Ghana’s 49 year old boxing medal drought Daniel Koranteng

Date:

Ghana’s Amateur boxing team, the Black Bombers, have not had the best of preparation heading into the Tokyo Olympic Games in July this year.

The team, who recently shifted camp to the Bukom Boxing Emporium are looking to add to the three individuals who have already booked their spots at the showpiece.

Captain of the team, Suleman Tetteh, who will be making a return to the games, after missing out on the Rio Olympics, has vowed to win a medal for Ghana.

With Ghana’s last medal in boxing, coming during the 1972 Games, Tetteh agrees the task is tough but is positive of ending that drought.

“I’m not the same fighter I was back in 2012 or 2016. I have evolved,” he told Citi Sports.

“I’m continuing my preparations and hopefully I get a good draw at the games. If that happens, I promise you, I’ll win a medal for mother Ghana.”

The Black Bombers are set to leave Ghana for Japan in June to acclimatise.
