Former Black Stars head coach James Kwesi Appiah has warned his former side not to underrate any team at the upcoming Total Energies Africa Cup of Nations set to come off in January 2024 in Ivory Coast.
Kwesi Appiah, who now heads the Sudanese national team, believes football in Africa has evolved over the years; hence, every country should be taken seriously.
Ghana’s struggles with lesser-known footballing countries are evident in the former coach’s assertion.
“I have been talking about the evolution of football since 2013. Because now you can’t underrate any team. At the moment, everyone is developing very fast; hence, there is no need to underrate anybody,” said Kwesi Appiah in an interview with GhanaSportsPage.
“You need to be psychologically, physically, and mentally prepared to give your all against every team and get the win.
“I think they might be surprised at this coming AFCON. Those who prepare well will have a good tournament,” he added.
Ghana will face a familiar opponent, Cape Verde, on January 14, 2024, at the Felix Houphouet Boigny Stadium in Abidjan.
The Black Stars will base themselves in Abidjan for their group-stage matches.
