Born to Nigerian parents, Michael Kayode has revealed his decision to represent the Italian national team.

Kayode has the choice to don the classic green and white jersey of the Super Eagles of Nigeria.

He confirmed an approach was made by the Nigerian Football Federation, but ultimately chose to play for the country of his birth.

The Brentford right-back was speaking in a pre-match presser ahead of Italy’s Nations League group stage matchday one tie against Belgium on Friday night.

Nigeria contacted me, that’s true. But I came through the Italian youth academies and I have always considered it an honour to be part of this national team.
