Why Would The Rest of Africa Would Support Mexico Tonight?

Date:

The stakes are high at the 2026 FIFA World Cup, set to begin tonight when joint host Mexico takes on 2010 host South Africa.

The famous Azteca stadium would be filled to the brim with lots of Mexican supporters, including other African nationals wishing for the defeat of South Africa.

You may have seen a number of Africans, notably Ghanaians, Nigerians, Kenyans, Ugandans, and Mozambicans, on social media identifying themselves as Mexicans on Thursday.

What in the world is wrong with them? You may ask. Well, this is a result of xenophobic attacks other Africans based in South Africa have endured in the hands of the natives.

In recent times, the Ghanaian and Mozambican governments have been in the news for evacuating their people from South Africa.

The Bafana Bafana may have been written off by the rest of Africa and the world, but they would be hoping to cause a massive upset to kick off the tournament.
