The Pharaohs of Egypt had to dig deep on their 2025 Africa Cup of Nations opening night, coming from behind to defeat Zimbabwe 2-1 in Agadir.
Egypt dominated for long spells but were pushed to the brink before their quality finally told, and they avoided what would have been a shocking opening-day defeat in Group B.
Despite Egypt’s territorial control, Zimbabwe stayed disciplined and then struck on the counter in the 20th minute through Prince Dube.
Chances came and went as pressure mounted until Omar Marmoush finally found the equaliser for Egypt in the 63rd minute.
Salah finally had the fans in ecstasy, getting the winning goal in the second half stoppage time.
Egypt will face the Bafana Bafana next on Friday, December 26, 2025.
