Ghana, unlike certain other African countries, will not be affected by President Donald Trump’s fresh visa restrictions.
The President of the United States of America, joint host of the 2026 FIFA World Cup, has issued a fresh set of visa restrictions to foreign nationals, including Nigerians.
On Tuesday, December 16, 2025, President Trump appended his signature to a proclamation restricting entry into the U.S. for nationals of countries with deficient screening and vetting information to protect the national security and public safety of the United States and its people.
Nigeria is among the 16 countries affected by the restrictions, though it would not participate at the global fiesta after failing to secure qualification, thankfully, due to a defeat to DR Congo in the playoff rounds.
Countries affected by the partial suspension of entry for nationals of countries of identified concern include Angola, Antigua and Barbuda, Benin, Ivory Coast, the Dominican Republic, Gabon, The Gambia, Malawi, Mauritania, Nigeria, Senegal, Tanzania, Tonga, Turkmenistan, Zambia, and Zimbabwe.
