Otto Addo Aims for 2026 World Cup Group Stage Success

Date:

Basking in his and the Black Stars’ success, Otto Addo is aiming for group stage survival at the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

With Ghana yet to discover their opponents in the global showpiece, the Black Stars head coach, Otto Addo, is determined to improve on the finish of the country’s last appearance in Qatar 2022.

Ghana finished top of Group I of the African qualifiers for the tournament set to be jointly hosted by the USA, Canada, and Mexico, booking automatic qualification alongside 8 others to represent the continent.

In his conversation with Joy Sports, the former Borussia Dortmund trainer revealed he looks forward to leading the team out of the group stages to the knockout stages.

“I have to be realistic. We need to take things step by step, and then our number one aim, which is very important for us to survive the group stage. “Once we enter the knockout stages, I know that anything can happen,” he said.

Ghana suffered an early exit from the last tournament after competing against Portugal, South Korea, and Uruguay. The Black Stars lost to Portugal and Uruguay but defeated South Korea.

The 2026 World Cup group stage draw will take place on Friday, Dec. 5, at the John F. Kennedy Center in Washington D.C.
