GTEC Revokes Accreditation of Postgraduate Programs

Date:

The Ghana Tertiary Education Commission (GTEC) has revoked the accreditation of three postgraduate programs of a Cape Coast-based tertiary school.

The school, the Institute of Development and Technology Management, failed to notify GTEC when it decided to offer its postgraduate programs on the weekends.

The affected programs are PhD, MPhil, and MA in Development Studies. They had originally been approved to run only as regular weekday courses.

In a letter dated September 17, 2025, addressed to the president of the Institute of Development and Technology Management, GTEC expressed concern that the institute had repackaged them as weekend programs without prior authorization.

GTEC further ordered the institute to withdraw all admission letters issued under the unauthorized version of the programs, stop fresh enrollments, and provide evidence of compliance.

It also demanded the submission of a comprehensive teach-out plan to protect students already enrolled, with a deadline of October 17, 2025.

The teach-out plan will be overseen by the University of Cape Coast (UCC) and the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST).
