President Mahama Announces Posthumous Promotions After Helicopter Crash

Date:

The President of the Republic of Ghana, His Excellency John Dramani Mahama, has announced the posthumous promotion of the eight military helicopter crash victims.

Ghana’s Minister for Defence, Dr Edward Omane Boamah, and Minister for Environment, Dr Ibrahim Murtala Mohammed, died in the gruesome crash at Adansi Afrokoum.

Also perishing in the crash were Alhaji Muniru Mohammed, Acting Deputy National Security Coordinator; Dr Samuel Sarpong, Vice Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC); and Mr Samuel Aboagye, a former parliamentary candidate.

The military crew onboard—Squadron Leader Peter Anala, Flying Officer Twum Ampadu, and Sergeant Ernest Addo—also lost their lives.

In his address at the state funeral for the fallen heroes, the president promoted Squadron Leader Peter Anala to Wing Commander, Flying Officer Manean Twum Ampadu to Flight Lieutenant, and Sergeant Ernest Addo to Flight Sergeant.

The civilian victims will also be honoured at an upcoming national awards with the highest mark of respect for the rightful places they have earned.

The Chief of Defence Staff, Lieutenant General William Agyapong, has been tasked to oversee the posthumous promotion of the fallen military officers.
