Why Supreme Court ruled in favour of Nii Tackie Tsuru

Date:

The highest court in the Republic of Ghana on Wednesday, July 23, 2025, ordered the National House of Chiefs not to restore Nii Tackie Adama Latse II on the register as Ga Mantse.

On June 12, 2025, the National House of Chiefs in Kumasi received an order from the Court of Appeal to reinstate Nii Tackie Adama Latse II on their register as the legitimate paramount chief of the Ga State.

This was after Nii Tackie Adama Latse II challenged Nii Tackie Tsuru’s legitimacy as the Ga Mantse and received confirmation his name had been expunged from the National House of Chiefs.

The Office of King Tackie Teiko Tsuru on June 13, 2025, dismissed claims the Court of Appeal had conferred legitimacy on Nii Adama Latse in a press statement.

“The Court of Appeal did not and could not declare Nii Adama Latse II as Ga Mantse,” the statement read, urging residents and natives to remain calm.

A five-member panel of the supreme court, which had Justice Gabriel Scott Pwamang as its president, revealed the Kumasi High Court judge, Justice Frederick Tetteh, violated the rule of natural Justice by not notifying Nii Tackie Teiko and giving him hearing.
