We were unlucky — Kim Lars reacts after final miss

Date:

The “better team”, the Black Queens were unlucky against host country Morocco in the 2024 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON), according to Kim Lars Bjeokegren.

Morocco emerged victorious after a penalty shootout in Rabat on Tuesday, July 22, 2025, after equalising in the second half through Ouzraoui.

Former Dreamz FC and Black Princesses captain Stella Nyamekye’s persistence handed the Black Queens the lead after 26 minutes of action before being pegged back to force the game into extra time.

Morocco goalkeeper Errmichi proved to be the hero as she pulled off stops in the penalty shootout to ensure her side sailed through to the final.

Ghana’s Swedish head coach was proud of his hard-working Queens despite their fatigue level but rued their bad luck after doing all the right things for a place in the final.

“We played another 120 minutes. They did it so well. We were the better team in this game, and I think we deserved the win… We were a little bit unlucky today. I can’t be more proud of the girls,” he said.

Ghana will now battle it out for bronze against the soon-to-be dethroned champions, South Africa on Friday, July 25, 2025.

The Super Falcons of Nigeria are clear favourites against the Atlas Lionesses of Morocco for the crown to become Africa’s best women’s national team.
