JUST IN : Justice Blay apologizes to Kotoko

Date:

Former Asante Kotoko midfielder Justice Blay has issued a public apology following widespread backlash over his controversial remarks during a live interview on Pure FM Sports.

The player made explosive allegations involving ex-teammates and personal relationships, sparking outrage among fans and football observers.

During the now-viral interview, Blay claimed that Guinean midfielder Camara Mohammed “snatched” his girlfriend, a situation that allegedly escalated into a police case. He also accused striker Kwame Opoku of getting involved with another romantic partner Blay had introduced to him.

Blay further alleged that Camara and Joseph Ablor were involved in off-field misconduct, including smoking shisha, as he sought to deflect perceptions that he alone had disciplinary issues during his time with the club.

Amid intense criticism, Blay released a statement of apology on Friday, July 11, 2025, through the JBlay Foundation. In the statement, he admitted his words were driven by personal emotions tied to his departure from Kotoko and took full responsibility for the fallout.

“Upon reflection, I recognise that my words may have caused disappointment or offense to the club, my former teammates, the passionate supporters, and specific individuals whose names were mentioned,” the statement read.

Blay went on to offer an “unreserved apology” to the club’s management, technical team, players, and supporters. He emphasized that it was never his intention to damage the club’s image or discredit those he worked with.

Acknowledging that emotions clouded his judgment, Blay stated the experience had taught him the importance of emotional discipline, humility, and maturity, both on and off the pitch.

“This experience has served as a powerful reminder… I am committed to learning from this and becoming not only a better player but a better person,” he concluded.
