Mahama penalizes asset declaration defaulters with 3-month salary loss

Date:

President John Dramani Mahama has imposed a firm disciplinary measure on political appointees who failed to meet the asset declaration deadline of March 31, 2025.

The President, in a public address, revealed that information from the Auditor General’s office indicated non-compliance by some members of his administration.

In response, President Mahama has ordered that these appointees forfeit three months’ salary. The withheld funds are to be donated to the Ghana Medical Trust Fund, reinforcing government accountability and public service ethics.

“On February 18, 2025, I issued a directive that all appointed or nominated officials must declare their assets by March 31. An update from the Auditor General shows that some individuals failed to meet this requirement,” the President stated.

This move emphasizes the administration’s commitment to transparency, rule of law, and the fight against corruption. The decision aligns with constitutional requirements and aims to rebuild public trust in governance.

President Mahama reiterated that asset declaration is not a formality but a constitutional obligation meant to promote integrity and prevent illicit enrichment among public officials.

The Ghana Medical Trust Fund, which will receive the forfeited salaries, supports critical healthcare initiatives, making the punishment not only corrective but socially impactful.
