Military Training for National Service Starts August 2025

Date:

The National Service Authority (NSA) has begun advanced consultations with the Ghana Armed Forces to launch the National Service Emergency Response Readiness Programme (NSERRP)—a groundbreaking initiative aimed at introducing National Service military training for all personnel.

This bold programme was first announced by President John Dramani Mahama during his inaugural State of the Nation Address on 27 February 2025, aligning with his vision to instil discipline, patriotism, and physical resilience in Ghana’s youth.

At a high-level meeting held on 23 April 2025, NSA Director-General Felix Gyamfi highlighted the transformative nature of the initiative. “The introduction of this military training is a step in the right direction,” he said, calling it essential for youth development and national renewal.

Under the NSERRP, all National Service Personnel (NSPs) will undergo up to two months of basic military drills and orientation exercises, starting with the first batch on 3 August 2025. The training is designed to foster a stronger sense of civic responsibility and commitment to national service.

Brigadier General Amoah-Boakye, representing the Military High Command, affirmed the full support of the Ghana Armed Forces. He assured that the military is fully equipped to roll out the training once the programme is launched.

This move marks a significant shift in the National Service framework, enhancing not just professional readiness but also national preparedness in emergencies.
