Eid-ul-Fitr Celebration Turns Violent in Kasoa

Date:

A violent clash during Eid-ul-Fitr celebrations in Kasoa left three people injured, with one in critical condition.

The incident occurred when rival youth groups from Walantu and Odupongkpehe Zongo, two Muslim-dominated communities, reignited an existing feud during a street carnival marking the festival’s climax. According to a relative of one victim, tensions had simmered during Ramadan, but the conflict erupted once fasting ended.

“I was enjoying the carnival with friends when the violence broke out. Suddenly, I felt a sharp cut on my hand,” one injured female victim recounted.

Police swiftly intervened, arresting one suspect, who is now assisting investigations at the Kasoa CBD Police Station. Officers also recovered a hammer and other dangerous weapons, with sources confirming that participants carried sharpened machetes to the event.

Authorities are pursuing additional suspects linked to the street fight as investigations continue.
