Five-star Black Stars smash Chad to move top

Date:

The Black Stars of Ghana have moved to the top of the Group I standings of the 2026 FIFA World Cup African qualifiers after a commanding victory over Chad.

Antoine Semenyo, Inaki Williams, Jordan Ayew, Mohammed Salisu, and Ernest Nuamah scored to ensure the Black Stars head into their next game against Madagascar on the back of a resounding 5-0 win.

Otto Addo and his new technical staff would be tapping themselves on the back after witnessing their frontline decisions making lasting impacts on Ghana’s first official game in 2025.

Bournemouth forward, Antoine Semenyo, got the ball rolling for the Ghanaians with a smart finish just two minutes into the fifth match of the qualifying campaign.

Spaniard-born Inaki Williams scored his second goal for Ghana in the 31st minute since making his debut in September 2022, before captain Jordan Ayew netted from the penalty spot five minutes later, handing the home side a deserving 3-0 lead going into the break.

Brimming with confidence after a dominant first-half display, the Black Stars increased their lead in the 56th minute when Ernest Nuamah’s corner-kick cross was headed home by AS Monaco’s Mohammed Salisu.

The Lyon star, a target for English Premier League side Everton FC, Nuamah, was rewarded for his impressive display on the healthy-looking Accra Sports Stadium pitch with a goal of his after he fired home from Jordan Ayew’s intelligent back flick in the 68th minute.

Fans of the Black Stars would hope the team maintains its newly found form when the second round of the qualifiers kicks off after meeting Madagascar in Morocco on Monday, March 24.

The team is expected to depart for Casablanca on Saturday to have ample time to face their opponent at the Al Hoceima Grand Stadium.
