Nana Oduro Sarfo, a member of the Executive Council of the Ghana Football Association, has rubbished reports describing Frederick Acheampong as a former member of the Council.
Frederick Acheampong, an astute football administrator, contested the parliamentary seat for the Ahafo Ano South East constituency on the ticket of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) but lost to Yakubu Mohammed of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) when Ghana went to the polls on December 7.
Reports circulated of Acheampong’s defeat while referreing to him as a former member of the Executive Council, which Oduro Sarfo swiftly refuted in an interview with Nana Darkwa Gyasi on Max FM.
“Whoever made the story made a misleading story because Fred Ache is still a member of the Exco. No law in football prevents an MP to be in football or a football person contesting for an MP,” he said on the Sports Pack show.
He cited others such as Hon. Dr. Ignatius Baffuor Awuah, Chairman of Nsoatreman FC; Hon. John Peter Amewu, Chairman of Hohoe United; etc., all football persons despite being involved in partisan politics.
Oduro Sarfo therefore described such reports as clickbaits for lesser-known news platforms looking to direct traffic to their pages.
