PARA SPORTS: Ghana’s Michael Obeng Honored

Date:

Ghana’s Michael Obeng, a dedicated para-sports delegate, received an honorary award at the 2024 Korean Paralympic Camp (KPC) held in Incheon, South Korea.

The event brought together 60 participants from across the globe, including athletes, coaches, and officials, to prepare for the upcoming 2028 Paralympics in Los Angeles.

Leading the Ghanaian contingent, Michael Obeng was accompanied by three para-athletes: Akotoh Bryan Baffour Kwadjo and Aheto Promise Wonder, both para-swimmers, and Judith Adu Yeboah, a para-badminton player. The camp’s activities were designed to provide technical training and cultural exchange, fostering international cooperation in para-sports.

Highlights of the eight-day program, which ran from November 5 to 13, 2024, included specialized training sessions in swimming, badminton, and Taekwondo, as well as lectures by renowned experts in para-sports. Participants also had the opportunity to explore South Korea through cultural tours, enhancing their understanding of the host nation’s rich heritage. The event culminated in vibrant opening and closing ceremonies, featuring inspiring videos from previous camps.

As part of the recognition, all participants received medals and certificates of participation, acknowledging their efforts and commitment to the camp’s objectives. Michael Obeng was additionally honored for his leadership and contributions to para-sports, a proud moment for Ghana on the international stage.

In his closing remarks, Michael Obeng expressed deep gratitude to the organizers of KPC 2024 and extended special thanks to Samson Deen, President of the National Paralympic Committee of Ghana. “We have gained invaluable knowledge and experiences during this camp, and I am eager to share them back home in Ghana to advance the growth of para-sports,” Obeng said.

The Korean Paralympic Camp continues to serve as a vital platform for empowering para-athletes and fostering collaboration between nations. Obeng’s recognition highlights Ghana’s growing presence in the global para-sports community and its dedication to the development of inclusive sports programs.
