The head of administration for the National Sports Authority, Abdul Majeed Bawa, has refuted reports that the Municipal Chief Executive for Tarkwa-Nsuaem, Hon. Benjamin Kessie, has dismissed the Western Regional branch of the NSA for an Interim Management Committee (IMC) to take over the management of the TnA Stadium.
Majeed Bawa, who recently endured the wrath of Ghanaians for his defense of the appalling nature of the pitch of the Baba Yara Sports Stadium after the Black Stars’ disappointing home defeat to the Palancas Negras of Angola on September 5, by questioning ‘whether Ghana played in air,’ maintained that his outfit is mandated and has an agreement with the Goldfields Foundation to manage the TnA Stadium after its facelift.
Reports had been circulating on Thursday morning that the MCE for Tarkwa-Nsuaem, Hon. Kessie, had set up an IMC to manage the stadium due to the community’s concern about the NSA’s capability in light of the recent criticisms directed at it.
“The TnA park is managed by the NSA staff. They have not been sacked, and nobody has come there [the Western Regional NSA office] to tell them anything,” he said.
He brought to light that the municipal assembly of Tarkwa-Nsuaem has, over a period, been fighting for the right to manage the facility since its facelift was completed, ignoring the fact that the NSA has a standing agreement with the Goldfields Foundation.
Meanwhile, in an interview on Max FM’s Sports Pack show, Majeed Bawa insisted his outfit remains in charge of the facility.
“We were negotiating until 2019 when we signed an agreement before the facility was upgraded and the NSA was managing it, but because the facility has been given a facelift and the Goldfields Foundation works in that environment, they think that the facility should be given to them, citing all manner of reasons,” he added.
