The Black Stars of Ghana suffered yet another setback in their quest to earn qualification for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco following a 1-1 draw with Niger.
Ahead of the second round of matches in the qualifiers, Otto Addo demanded a positive response from his charges after a disappointing home defeat to the Palancas Negras of Angola.
His demands appeared to be heeded when the Black Stars began the game on the front foot, barraging their opponents with attack after attack in the early minutes, but their opponents held on till a minute to the end of the first half when Alidu Seidu’s thunderous strike from the edge of the Niger penalty box swerved past the goalkeeper to give Ghana the lead.
Niger entered the second looking determined to get something out of the game and eventually did so with ten minutes left after the Ghanaians failed to defend a corner that saw Oumar Sakho slamming the ball into the roof of the net to condemn the Black Stars to a joint-bottom position.
The Black Stars will face Kwesi Appiah’s Sudan in Kumasi in October, while Niger hosts Angola.
