I haven’t received royalties for the past 16 years – Ohemaa Mercy

Date:

Celebrated gospel chanteuse Ohemaa Mercy says she has not received royalties from the Ghana Music Rights Organization (GHAMRO) for the past 16 years.

According to her, the system in place at GHAMRO pissed her off, which made her vow not to set foot at the music-right organization for any royalty.

The “Ote Me Mu” hitmaker revealed this in an interview with the Max Morning Show in Accra on Wednesday.

She said she only got 500 cedis for her early four years in the industry after major hit songs and albums that received massive airplay and trended at that time.

“That killed my spirit, and I vowed not to step there again. I have been in the industry for 20 years, so after those four years, I haven’t set foot there for 16 years now. That’s why I don’t want to touch that royalty subject,” Ohemaa Mercy sadly said.

Touching on why it did not excite her to even go there after all these years, she noted that all their systems were not appealing and would even piss one off to be there.

Ohemaa Mercy further indicated that, with or without the royalties, she was doing well in the industry, and God has uplifted her ministries to inspire many.
