The Atlas Lions of Morocco will face their North African rivals, the Pharoahs of Egypt, following a 2-1 defeat to Spain in the first semifinal of men’s football at the 2024 Paris Olympic Games.
Tournament top scorer Soufian Rahimi once again at the event had the Moroccans dreaming of a place in the final after giving in the 37th minute from the penalty spot.
The Spaniards rallied after the break to snatch an equalizer through one of the tournament’s best players, Barcelona player Fermin lopez, in the 65th minute before Juanlu Sanchez broke Moroccan hearts with a late winner.
Morocco still has a chance to win a medal, as they are set to take on Egypt in the bronze medal match on Thursday, August 8, 2024, at 16:00 GMT.
